Last weekend local go karter Mason Barun represented Malta in the Swiss Championship, a close collaboration with the Official Gold Kart team
The weekend of the Swiss karting championship in Franciacorta concluded positively for the young driver. It was his inaugural experience racing on this track, and Barun only had 8 training sessions of 10 minutes each to familiarize himself with it.
In the qualifying round, Mason Barun secured 10th position out of a total of 25 drivers. Despite this, he believed he deserved a higher placement. Unfortunately, Barun found himself behind a slower driver, and with the limited time left in the qualifying session, he was unable to improve his position.
In the first race, Barun made a remarkable comeback by advancing 4 positions and finishing in 6th place. The second race saw him cross the finish line in 5th place, but a 3 second penalty at the start dropped the driver to 13th place.
Moving on to the last race, Barun started in 7th place, fought hard and managed to climb to 5th place, but eventually struggled to keep his pace and dropped back to 7th place. However, due to penalties issued to other drivers, Barun ended up finishing 5th overall.
“I am happy with the result, but I recognize that there is always room for improvement. I will persist in working diligently to achieve superior results in my upcoming WSK race at this track in June”.
Barun ended by thanking his parents, family, and friends for their steadfast support. In addition, he also expressed gratitude to his sponsors, Solana Hotel & Spa and Progressive Information Systems Ltd, GLD Racing, Gold Kart for the Chassis and support, Nicola Boscaini for the rocket engine, Gianluca Dingli, Maurizio Capuzzo, and Diego Righetti. The young driver also insisted that special recognition is due to Gold’s mechanic, Marco.
