Maltese teams register mixed results in Euro Hockey Challenge played in Gibralter

The two Maltese teams started their commitments in the Euro Hockey Challenge in a contrasting way in the matches played in Gibraltar.

Qormi Daikin won 2-0 against HC Luxembourg. Despite the positive score, it was not an easy game for the Yellow/Blacks with the team from Luxembourg starting to mount several counterattacks but the Maltese defense held firm.

For their part, Qormi controlled well and managed to score twice with their hero being Luke Bajada who netted a brace.

On the other hand Floriana had a 6-1 defeat against host team of Eagles HC 6-1. The latter were dominant throughout the game so much so that by the end of the third quarter they were already 4-0 ahead. Although the Greens reduced the scoring margin, the team from Gibraltar scored two more goals which gave them the first points of the tournament.

Kyle Davis scored a double while Julian Lopez, Leigh Dobinson, Daniel Cornelio and Stefan Rodriguez added more goals for their team.

Mark Camilleri scored the only goal for Floriana.

Both teams will be in action today in the second day of matches as Qormi play against Ginstrekte of Lithuania (9.30am) while Floriana Young Stars face Norwegians Furuset with the game starting at 2.30 pm.
