Daniel Farke's Norwich City Fall to Leeds United 4-0 in Championship Play-off Semi-final

In the second leg of their semi-final, Leeds easily advanced to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final with a dominant 4-0 victory over Norwich.

Following a scoreless draw at Carrow Road last Sunday, Leeds dominated their rivals in the rematch on Thursday evening at Elland Road, securing their spot at Wembley.

In the first half, Ilia Gruev, Joel Piroe, and Georginio Rutter all scored goals, giving their team a strong lead. The rout continued in the second half with Crysencio Summerville adding to the score.

On Sunday, May 26, they will compete against Southampton or West Brom for a chance to secure a place in the Premier League for the upcoming season.

The beginning of the game for Leeds was ideal for calming the nerves. They took the lead in just seven minutes with Gruev’s impressive free-kick, which caught Angus Gunn off guard in the Norwich goal. Gunn was anticipating a cross but was thrown off and the ball managed to slip into the near post from a distance of 25 yards.

In just 20 minutes, they were able to increase their lead. However, Gunn may not have been satisfied with his contribution as he did not take decisive action to intercept Wilfried Gnonto’s cross, resulting in Piroe being able to head the ball into the back of the net.

Two minutes after, Norwich had the chance to equalize when Josh Sargent took advantage of Ethan Ampadu’s mistake and had a clear shot at goal. Despite his consistent accuracy throughout the season, Sargent was unable to score as Illan Meslier quickly closed in on him and saved the shot with a big effort.

The Canaries would later come to regret their missed opportunity at the 41 minute mark when Summerville set up Rutter to score Leeds’ third goal with a powerful shot that hit the underside of the crossbar.

The beginning of the second half proved to be a downward spiral for Norwich as their crucial No 9, Sargent, had to leave the game due to injury. This only added to their troubles as Summerville sealed a Leeds victory with a fourth goal, neatly placing the ball into the net from a close distance after Gunn deflected Junior Firpo’s cross onto his path.

The prospect of reliving a disastrous play-off semi-final, similar to the one experienced against Derby half a decade ago, was swiftly put to rest at Elland Road.

In the beginning, Leeds aggressively attacked and maintained their energy throughout the game. They completely outplayed Norwich in the explosive first half. This was one of their most exceptional displays of the season, which was perfectly timed.
