Malta ended its commitments in the water polo European Championships Qualification Group with a narrow penalty loss to France 15-14. However, this was the first time ever that Malta managed to end the match in parity against France 10-10.
Malta led for long periods in the match and it was only in the end that the locals were pegged back. The Maltese have made huge progress against France having lost 17-7 in 2016 and 12-6 in 2018. Malta had already secured qualification to the Final 16 after victories against Ukraine and Portugal earlier in the week.
