The 2025 Summer Waterpolo Championship kicked off with a full round of exciting fixtures in both the Premier and First Divisions, as the top teams began their campaigns with important early victories.
In the Premier Division, San Ġiljan MAA Daikin opened with a narrow but hard-fought 11–10 win over Exiles Welbee’s. Despite missing key players, including captain Matthew Zammit, San Ġiljan showed their experience in the closing stages to secure the three points.
Neptunes Best Gyms Malta also got off to a winning start, defeating Valletta Peak Insurance 16–11. Valletta kept the game close for three quarters, even managing to draw level at 10–10, but Neptunes pulled away with five unanswered goals in the final session, led by a standout performance from Gergo Zalanki.
Meanwhile, Sliema Frank Salt enjoyed the most comfortable result of the round with a dominant 20–12 win against Sirens Build Fitness. Sliema were in control from the start and never looked back, spreading their goals across the team in a well-balanced display.
In the First Division, Ta’ Xbiex Amigos continued their positive form following their recent cup success by edging past Birżebbuġa ASC 14–12. Once again, Roko Pelicaric proved crucial, scoring seven goals to guide his team to victory in a tight contest.
Marsaxlokk MFF overcame Otters Nivea 19–17 in a high-scoring affair. Marsaxlokk controlled much of the match and built a solid lead before Otters mounted a late comeback that fell just short.
