Team Schweppes emerged as the winners of the 2025 EquestriMalta Cawnpore Cup following a dramatic 5½–5 victory over Team Alliance in a thrilling final match.
The game began with Team Alliance taking a commanding 4-0 lead, appearing to be in control. However, Team Schweppes gradually fought their way back into the contest, closing the gap and maintaining pressure throughout. In the final five seconds, with the score at 5-4 in favour of Team Alliance, Team Schweppes were awarded a penalty, which was successfully converted by Jeremy Besancon. With Team Schweppes holding a half-point advantage, the final score handed them the narrow win.
Earlier in the day, the Challenge Cup was contested, with Team Finestral defeating Team cSociety 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by Chris Delia.
Both matches were officiated by umpires Nano Iturrioz and Steve Vassallo. At the end of the event, trophies and awards were presented to the winners and participants by the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr Robert Abela, in the presence of EquestriMalta Chairman Dr Dean Hili and CEO Max Zammit and Malta Polo Club President Matthew Borg.
