As part of the 1st Leg of the Mediterranean HorseRacing Union championship held in Malta this Sunday 7th April, the Malta Racing Club succeeded in setting up an interesting racing meeting with as many as 5 international races with the support of EquestriMalta.
The day opened up with 2 races reserved for friendship races between Maltese drivers and foreigners from the racetrack of Akbuzat. These races were both open for Copper category and here we had two Maltese victories for Oro Doc driven by Michael Ellul in the first race followed by that of Isseo de Nappes for Maltese champion driver Rodney Gatt.
Two other races formed part of the Islands Championship’s first leg, whereby 5 Sicilian drivers challenged Maltese drivers over two races reserved for Bronze category horses. Here, Paul Galea on Dieu d’Occagnes and then once again Rodney Gatt on Oyess LJ gave spectators another two brilliant Maltese victories on the day.
The final race was the Mediterranean HorseRacing Union Championship Leg 1 race. Michael Ellul represented Malta on Cash de Beauregard against four other foreign driver, namely Pierre Vercruysse for France, Giusy Savarese for Italy, Dejan Katanic for Serbia and Ksenia Morozova. The race was won by Redent Magro a Maltese driver on Gigaro Am who dominated the last lap of the race, winning comfortably the race reserved for Silver category horses. Amongst the participants of the Mediterranean HorseRacing Union Championship, Serbian driver Dejan Katanic finished first with his second place on Hegoa Smart, whilst Michael Ellul was second with Cash de Beauregard who finished strongly and ended the race in third place. Seventh at the finishing line but third from the participants to the championship was Pierre Vercruysse on Du Snob. This gave Malta a good start to this championship before Maltese drivers continue participating in the next legs of this championship. These foreign participations will be held in other members nations of this union for countries bordering the Mediterranean and its inner seas.
The Malta Racing Club congratulates all Maltese drivers who obtained excellent results, showcasing talented driving in these international encounter races forming part of the 16th racing meeting of the season.
