The biannual Hyrox Challenge Malta event returned to Campus Hub last weekend, with more than one thousand athletes across age groups tackling a full programme of races. The event was organised by Warehouse Studio, JungleBox and Garmin Malta. All proceeds went to the ALIVE Charity Foundation, a non-profit and non-governmental organisation that funds cancer research and awareness, with a total of €53,800 raised. This challenge was a simulation of HYROX races held abroad giving local athletes the opportunity to test themselves before competing abroad
Across the weekender, the schedule featured Men Doubles, Women Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Women Open, Men Open, and the relay and youth blocks that drew big crowds to the Campus Hub on Saturday. These included Men Relay, Women Relay, Mixed Relay, an Invitational Relay, plus a Kids Competitive race and a Youths Competitive race.

The headline act arrived on Friday when the professional fields went head to head. In the Pro Men race Mark Caruana topped the leaderboard in 1:05:50, ahead of Tyler Hunt in 1:08:59 and Glenn Tanti Cuschieri in 1:14:15. The Pro Women title went to Paula Grech in 1:12:23, with Leanne Sciberras close behind in 1:13:03, and Michelle Vella third in 1:16:07.
Hyrox is a standardised fitness race that combines running segments with functional workout stations such as ski erg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, walking lunges and wall balls. It is designed for wide participation, with categories that suit elite athletes and newcomers alike. The sport has gained strong momentum in Malta over the past two years, and Maltese athletes have also competed on the world stage at the World Hyrox Championships in Chicago, helping to fuel local interest and a vibrant event atmosphere.
