The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri announced that the Directorate of Services for Gozo within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning will organize the ninth edition of the Gozo Sports Awards where for another year, sportsmen Gozo people will be rewarded for their advances in the various sports disciplines.
Associations and clubs are invited to submit their nominations for one or more of these categories based on performances and achievements in the year 2023 in events that took place in Gozo, in Malta or abroad.
Applications will open today, Monday 8 July 2024, and can be completed online at gozo.gov.mt These must be submitted by noon on Wednesday 17 July 2024.
The results will be announced during the final evening which will take place on Wednesday August 21, 2024.
These are the categories that will be awarded:
- Officer of the year: a person who serves in the administration in an Association, Club or event
- Coach of the Year: a qualified person who was recruited by an Association, Club or regional selection
- The Team of the Year: a team that represented Gozo or a local Club
- Recognition for an active Athlete over 45 years old (selected by the Directorate of Services within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning)
- Recognition for a Sports Career: (selected by the Serizzi Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning)
- Special Olympics Special Recognition (selected by the Directorate of Services within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning)
- Promising young person: A young person not more than 21 years old who has represented Gozo or a local club
- Promising young man: A young man of no more than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local club
- Sportswoman of the Year : Sportswoman not nominated in the Promising Young category who represented Gozo or a local Club
- Sportsman of the Year: A sportsman not nominated in the Promising Young category who represented Gozo or a local club
It was explained that individuals can nominate another individual only when there is no club or association of the respective sport. Where there is an association or club, nominations cannot be submitted by individuals.
