Brazilian forward Felipe Augusto De Oliviera produced a dazzling display on Sunday afternoon at the Kercem Stadium, scoring four goals as St Lawrence Spurs FC overcame Zebbug Rovers FC 4–2 in an entertaining encounter from Matchday 3 of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League Second Division.
Zebbug made a stronger start and took the lead in the 20th minute through a penalty converted by Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa, putting pressure on the Spurs’ defence. However, St Lawrence reacted immediately with De Oliviera equalising in the 28th minute before completing the turnaround just five minutes later with a well-taken finish to make it 2–1.
Zebbug levelled the score again early in the second half through Jake Sacco in the 51st minute, but the afternoon belonged to De Oliviera. The in-form striker restored St Lawrence’s advantage in the 67th minute and completed his outstanding performance from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to seal a 4–2 victory.
The result pushes St Lawrence Spurs to the top of the table with seven points after three matches, maintaining their unbeaten run and confirming their credentials as early promotion contenders.
Oratory Youths and Munxar Falcons share the spoils
In the day’s other fixture, Oratory Youths FC and Munxar Falcons FC shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw at the same venue.
Aroldo Da Silva Arruda (Aroldinho) opened the scoring for Oratory from the penalty spot in the 65th minute. Still, the Falcons equalised nine minutes later through Ayesller Carvalho, ensuring both sides walked away with a point. The match saw late drama when Eman Bugeja of Munxar Falcons was shown a red card in the 80th minute.
Following Matchday 3, St Lawrence Spurs FC lead the standings with seven points, followed by Sannat Lions FC and Gharb Rangers FC with six points each. Munxar Falcons move up to two points, while Oratory Youths sit on one. Zebbug Rovers FC, still without a point, remain at the bottom.
