Maltese tennis player Francesca Curmi and track athlete Jared Micallef have been chosen as the flagbearers of team Malta for the 20th edition of the games of the small states of Europe to be held in Andorra this week.
FRANCESCA CURMI (TENNIS)

A top tennis player that has achieved historic milestones for Malta. As a successful junior, she reached a World Junior Ranking of
52 and competed in all four Junior Grand Slams, notably reaching the doubles semi- finals at the 2019 Australian Open Juniors.
Her professional accomplishments include competing in her first WTA main draw at the Palermo Ladies Open in July 2023 and winning three singles and two doubles titles on the ITF professional Circuit. She secured
Malta’s first tennis medal—a silver in women’s doubles — at the 2022 Mediterranean Games. Currently ranked 367 in the WTA and
with a career-high of 299, Francesca has represented Malta in the Fed Cup with a 19-8 record. As she continues to ascend the ranks in 2025, her focus remains on moving up the world ranks and qualifying for Grand Slams, inspiring a new generation of Maltese athletes.
JARED MICALLEF (ATHLETICS)

Jared Micallef is Malta’s national record holder in the 800m and 1500m, and one of the country’s leading middle-distance runners.
A multiple gold medallist at the Games of the Small States of Europe, National Championships, and the 2024 Championships of the Small States of Europe, Jared has also represented Malta at the European Championships and the European Team Championships.
Known for his aggressive racing style and creative presence, he divides his time between Australia and Europe.

Jared remains committed to inspiring the next generation of Maltese athletes.
