Leclerc quickest in FP2 as Verstappen slides to seventh

In an impressive display during the second practice session for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Charles Leclerc emerged as the fastest driver, showcasing Ferrari’s strong pace on their home turf. Leclerc clocked a best lap time of 1:18.978, continuing his momentum from the first practice session where he also topped the charts.

Carlos Sainz, Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate, secured the second spot, underscoring Ferrari’s formidable performance ahead of the weekend’s main events. Meanwhile, Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished in third and fourth positions, respectively, indicating a competitive edge for the team at Imola.

In contrast, Max Verstappen of Red Bull encountered difficulties, ending up in seventh place. Verstappen’s session was marred by a spin and other challenges, raising concerns about Red Bull’s setup and strategy going into the weekend. This unexpected result for Verstappen has intensified the competition, as Red Bull aims to resolve these issues before the crucial qualifying sessions and the race itself.

Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s teammate, managed to secure a better position, finishing fifth, providing some optimism for Red Bull despite Verstappen’s struggles. The practice sessions have set the stage for an exciting and unpredictable race weekend at the historic Imola circuit.
