Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc says he believes “another miracle” is possible at Monza after being greeted by a sea of red at a fan event in central Milan ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
Speaking at “Drive to Monza by Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0%” at Palazzo Reale, the Monegasque said victory would be “extremely difficult” but insisted he has greater belief than a year ago. “This is a very special week for the tifosi. You feel the warmth when you arrive at the track in red, it pushes us,” he said, calling the sensation of standing on the Monza podium above the “marea rossa” indescribable.
Leclerc stressed unity as Ferrari’s differentiator. “You don’t make the difference alone; you need everyone together. I’ve never seen this team divided. I’m focused on the next race, but my duty is also to look ahead and help improve the car. I hope next year is better.”
He also praised team mate Lewis Hamilton, highlighting the Briton’s organisational strength and status as Formula 1’s most successful driver. “He’s a reference for growth. He already understands what it means to be a Ferrari driver, but Monza is unique, there’s a special feeling with the fans.”
Hamilton, addressing supporters in Italian, promised to “give my all” despite a season that has fallen short of expectations. “Trust is fundamental and it’s built over time,” he said. “Be confident, it will take time. It’s not the season I hoped for, but the only way out is to stay positive and draw energy from the passion of the fans. Everyone is working hard despite the difficulties. The important thing is not to give up. Being a Ferrari driver is the most special thing of all.”
The Italian Grand Prix takes place at Monza this weekend, with Ferrari aiming to harness home support in the final European round of the season.
