Gżira United have confirmed the return of one of their most iconic forwards, Maxuell Maia, with the Malta Premier League’s Best Foreigner and Top Scorer putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Maroons.
Nicknamed “Samurai” for his clinical finishing and fighting spirit on the pitch, Maxuell is no stranger to Gżira fans. The Brazilian striker previously spent three successful seasons at the club, netting 40 goals and establishing himself as one of the most feared attackers in Maltese football.
Technical Director Marlon Galea, who recently returned to the club, expressed his delight at securing the signing. “We are all thrilled with this signing. Maxuell is an amazing striker and a pitch warrior. When this opportunity presented itself, we closed the deal in just 30 minutes,” Galea said. “On a personal note, I’m very happy to work with Samu again. He is one of us.”
The move also represents a significant investment from the club. Financial Officer Alex Cassar described the signing as a major step in the club’s transfer strategy. “Last season, we came very close to securing Maxuell, but this time we made sure it happened. From here, I invite all our members and supporters to rally behind the club. Together, we can achieve great things.”
Club President Sharlon Pace echoed the enthusiasm, calling the signing a clear message of intent. “This is our statement that Gżira United are back. It’s my gift to the club and its supporters. When Marlon mentioned the possibility, I immediately instructed him to meet the player. Within minutes, everything was agreed.
