After having ratified its competition regulations earlier this year the MFA is believed to have finally selected the Football Video Support (FVS) supplier for the domestic games.
The MFA’s Executive board had unanimously approved the introduction of the FVS in both local football and in Futsal.
Sources close to the UEFA executive committee have told maltasport.mt that the MFA had originally asked for guidance from both FIFA and UEFA’s operations departments to identify and provide them with the list of the FIFA approved FVS suppliers.
After a thorough evaluation it was decided that the best supplier which came up with a tailor made offer for Maltese football was Czech Republic based company Goal Sport Technology. Alan Sant Head of the Referees Department and HR Director at MFA, local broadcasting expert Anton Attard and Matthew Paris one of the Vice President of the Malta FA have been the key people to close this important deal.
The initial discussions on the introduction of the FVS for domestic competitions started between the Malta FA and FIFA at the beginning of this calendar year.
Maltasport.mt can confirm that the MFA had received no less that eight offers from various international FIFA licensed suppliers.
Malta Premier Chairman Mr Alan Abela was being briefed during the negotiations since the majority of the Yohealth Malta Premier games are going forward will be supported by this system.
The FVS system in Maltese football will be deployed across three stadia, with a maximum of two FVS operations running concurrently.
Efforts are being made to introduce the first tests as early as from next month.
How will the FVS work ?
Each team will be able to make two (2) requests per match. If the review by the referee results in the original decision being changed, the team retains (does not lose) that review request.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE TECHNOLOGY MALFUNCTIONS?
If the technology malfunctions, the match must be played or continue without the FVS system. The head coach and captain of each team must be informed immediately that the FVS is not operational and the match should continue without prejudice.
