La Liga's Race is Far from Over: Xavi Weighs In

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez shared his thoughts after his side’s commanding 3-0 victory against Sevilla in the latest La Liga showdown.

The Catalan giants now hold an eight-point lead over their arch-rivals Real Madrid, who suffered defeat at the hands of Mallorca.

I still don’t think we’re the favourites for La Liga. We’re only in February, and we have any tough matches upcoming. The euphoria is nice, but we have to be cautious.

“That’s still Real Madrid, as defending champions. They became champions last season and won the Champions League. Real will continue to fight until the end. Let’s not forget that.”

They [Real Madrid] are still the favourites because they are the reigning La Liga and Champions League champions. I don’t see us as favourites, I see us as candidates. I know and we know that Real Madrid will continue to compete until the end. There have been historic comebacks, we mustn’t get carried away but we know we are in a privileged position.”
