A late solo effort by Caroline Graham Hansen handed Norway a 2-1 victory over Finland in the Women’s European Championship, keeping them unbeaten and in strong contention for a place in the quarter-finals.
The result marks Norway’s second consecutive win in Group A, placing them at the top of the standings with six points. Finland, who had previously defeated Iceland in their opening fixture, remain on three points.
Norway took an early lead in the third minute when Graham Hansen delivered a low cross into the box which deflected off Finnish defender Eva Nystrom and rolled into her own net.
Finland responded with determination and levelled the match midway through the second half. However, it was Graham Hansen who sealed the win with a decisive run and strike late in the game, earning her the player of the match award.
In the group’s other match, Switzerland claimed a 2-0 win over Iceland thanks to second-half goals from Geraldine Reuteler in the 76th minute and Alayah Pilgrim in stoppage time.
With one group match remaining, Norway now stand as strong favourites to progress to the knockout stage.
