Ħamrun Spartans have written a new chapter in the history of Maltese football by qualifying for the UEFA Conference League group stages following a 2-2 away draw against RFS, sealing the tie with a 3-2 aggregate.

The Maltese champions struck early in the 12th minute, when Thioune found the net after being set up by Koffi, giving Ħamrun a dream start.

However, RFS equalised in the 17th minute from the penalty spot after Eder brought down Talla in the box. Panic stepped up and calmly beat Bonello to level the match at 1-1 going into halftime.

Ħamrun emerged stronger in the second half and continued to push forward with growing confidence. Their persistence paid off in the 67th minute, when Polito rose highest to head home, restoring their lead.

RFS levelled again in the 87th minute from a Darko Lemajic goal but Ħamrun managed to keep hold of the draw which was enough to advance to the group stage of the UEFA Conference League for the first time in the history of Maltese football.
