Tottenham Hotspur, who haven’t won a trophy since the 2007/08 League Cup, have a chance to reach their first final in the competition since the 2020/21 season. However, facing Premier League leaders Liverpool won’t be easy. Spurs have been struggling recently, losing three of their last four matches, following their dramatic 4-3 win over Manchester United in the quarter-finals.
Tottenham have been hit hard by injuries and illness, so it’s perhaps unfair to criticise them too harshly, especially as many key players are missing. This has led the club to act quickly in the January transfer window, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky joining the squad. Kinsky could make his debut and help Spurs improve their record of just one clean sheet in their last 11 competitive games.
Despite Spurs’ problems, Liverpool showed they are not unbeatable after a 2-2 draw against struggling Manchester United at the weekend. Arne Slot’s team has also had a tough journey to the semi-finals, having knocked out three Premier League teams, though they failed to keep a clean sheet in any of those matches.
Liverpool are unlikely to worry about their lack of clean sheets, as they’ve scored more than three goals per League Cup game this season. If they avoid defeat, they’ll extend their unbeaten run in the competition to ten matches. Liverpool’s away form will also boost their confidence, as they remain unbeaten in all competitive matches on the road since April.
