Napoli maintained their position at the top of Serie A with a 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. This win marks their fifth consecutive league triumph, bringing them to 47 points, four ahead of Inter Milan, with two games in hand.
The match began energetically, with Napoli taking an early lead in the 5th minute. Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s shot struck the post and rebounded off Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò into the net, resulting in an own goal.
Napoli continued to press, creating several opportunities to extend their lead. Midfielders André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Scott McTominay missed clear chances, while striker Romelu Lukaku was actively involved in the attacking play. Verona posed occasional threats, notably through forward Casper Tengstedt, but could not capitalise.
In the second half, Napoli intensified their efforts. Their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when Anguissa exchanged passes with Lukaku before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the area, doubling Napoli’s advantage.
Following this goal, Napoli managed the game effectively, preventing Verona from mounting a significant comeback. The team wore black armbands in memory of Daniele, a 13-year-old fan who recently passed away due to cancer. Anguissa dedicated his goal to him, adding an emotional touch to the victory.
This result reinforces Napoli’s title ambitions as they prepare to face third-placed Atalanta in their next fixture. Verona, meanwhile, remain perilously close to the relegation zone, with only a one-point cushion above the bottom three.
