The 25-year-old England international is set to become one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League with a reported 50% pay increase.
According to The Sun, Manchester United is offering Marcus Rashford a new five-year contract, with a reported 50% pay increase. The 25-year-old has spent his entire professional career at Old Trafford, making 328 appearances in all competitions and coming through the academy setup.
The contract extension is not a surprise since United recently moved to activate a 12-month option in Rashford’s contract to ensure that he would not hold discussions with foreign clubs from January onwards.
Rashford has been in top form since working under coach Erik ten Hag, netting in each of United’s most recent seven matches, chipping in with a total of eight strikes and two assists. The England international has been a crucial player for the Red Devils and has been consistently delivering for the team, particularly either side of the break for the World Cup.
United’s offer to extend Rashford’s contract is a clear indication of the club’s desire to keep one of its best players and build a solid team around him. The report suggests that while clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain may offer Rashford a more lucrative deal, United has no intention of breaking their wage structure.
The proposed new contract would make Rashford one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League and would secure his future at Old Trafford until 2028.
Rashford’s performances on the field have been a major factor in United’s recent success, and the club would not want to lose such a valuable player. The report adds that United is willing to hand the striker a 50% pay-rise, which would move him to terms in the region of £300,000 per week.
While Rashford is currently focused on trying to extend his scoring streak with a match against Crystal Palace to come on Wednesday evening, he is aware that a United victory at Selhurst Park would see them move into second position in the Premier League table. Nevertheless, according to The Sun, conversations are currently ongoing behind the scenes with regards to a new long-term deal.
As it stands, a switch to Parc des Princes now looks unlikely unless United is unsuccessful with negotiations over the coming weeks. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi acknowledged last month that the French giants would be interested in Rashford should he become available on a free transfer.
But with United eager to retain the services of one of their best players, it looks like Rashford will be staying put at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
