The captain and legend of Argentina, Lionel Messi, spoke about the favorites for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, but he did not include the “Gauços” in the innermost circle.
Leo not only did not place Argentina in the circle of favorites but was very reserved when talking about the difficulty of this championship as well.
“Every match at the World Cup will be difficult. We didn’t have many games against European teams. I don’t think there’s any need for people to see us as favorites. You have to be realistic and go game by game. Every time we talk about title contenders we talk about the same teams. If I have to put a few above the others, I think they are Brazil, France and England”, said Messi, who was a guest of the legendary Jorge Valdano in his show “Universo Valdano”.
One of the best players of all time emphasized that the World Cup is a very demanding competition.
“France, although weakened by injuries to several players, still has a great team and an experienced coach. They will certainly be one of the main favorites to win the title, just like Brazil, who have Neymar and great strikers. We have good players. We will fight as much as we can – we are going to Qatar with that idea,” Messi concluded.
As a reminder, Argentina is in Group C with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland at the World Cup, which will be played from November 20 to December 18.
