The best player and captain of Argentina, Lionel Messi, believes that the selections of Brazil, France and England are slight favorites at the upcoming World Cup.
“Every time we talk about title contenders, we talk about the same teams. If I have to put a few above the rest, I think they are Brazil, France and England,” Messi said in an interview with the South American Football Confederation, as reported by France Presse today.
However, Messi believes that anything is possible.
“The World Cup is so difficult and so complicated that anything can happen. We are full of hope, we have a very good team that is motivated, but we have to go step by step. We know that the groups at the World Cup are not easy,” said the seven-time winner of the Golden balls.
Argentina will play in Group C in Qatar, with Saudi Arabia, Poland and Mexico.
The “gauchos” will play their first game against Saudi Arabia on November 22.
