Ħamrun Spartans prove too strong and trash Fgura United

Meridianbet FA Trophy – Round of 16

Ħamrun Spartans…..5

Fgura United………….0

Ħamrun Spartans proved far too strong for Fgura United, delivering a ruthless 5–0 victory to become the first team to book a place in the quarter finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy.

The Spartans dominated proceedings throughout, combining attacking flair with defensive solidity, while Fgura’s task became even more difficult after they were reduced to ten men before half-time.

Ħamrun took the lead in the 6th minute following a short corner routine, with Danilo Bulevardi finishing confidently from close range after a low delivery into the area.

The match swung decisively in Ħamrun’s favour as disciplinary issues began to mount for Fgura. After earlier cautions, Samuel Buhagiar was shown a second yellow card in the 40th minute, leaving his side a man down and struggling to contain Ħamrun’s attacking pressure. Earlier in the half, the Spartans also had a goal disallowed following a Video Support check for an offside infringement.

Despite a few moments of resistance from Dylan Caruana and Timilehin Akande, Ħamrun remained firmly in control as the teams went into the break.

Ħamrun raised the intensity in the second half and doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute, when Shaisen Attard received the ball inside the penalty area, turned sharply, and fired past Yenz Cini.

Attard struck again in the 64th minute, finishing off a slick attacking move involving Jonny and Bulevardi, calmly placing the ball into the far corner to make it 3–0.

Substitute Jonny added the fourth goal in the 78th minute, latching onto a well-weighted cross from Guillaumier and finishing from close range as Ħamrun continued to stretch their numerical advantage.

Ħamrun completed the rout in stoppage time when Damir Ceter rose highest to head home a Ryan Camenzuli cross, sealing a comprehensive five-goal performance.

With control of possession, clinical finishing, and a clear tactical edge, Ħamrun Spartans underlined their FA Trophy credentials, showing they remain one of the strongest contenders for silverware this season.

They will now face the winner of the tie between Valletta and Tarxien Rainbows in the quarter-finals.
