Mason Mount demands massive pay raise to renew Chelsea contract

Mason Mount, a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, could be leaving London this summer.

According to media reports from the UK, the problem is that Mount has asked for £300,000 per week to extend his contract.

The same sources claim that the attacking midfielder has rejected a salary similar to that which Rhys James currently earns under his new contract, which is £250,000 per week – about three times less than Mount’s current salary.

Mount’s priority is reportedly to stay at Stamford Bridge, but he doesn’t want to sign a long-term contract – at least not one for eight years like Mihajlo Mudric did when he joined from Shakhtar.

Since the start of the season, Mount has scored three goals and set up another six in 32 games across all competitions. He has mostly been used as a substitute and has been left out of the starting line-up.

If negotiations fail during the summer, Chelsea will sell him to avoid letting his contract expire and losing him for free next year.
