Malta Sport is informed that Valletta FC have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of Cameroonian centre-back Emmanuel Mbende ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 29-year-old joins the Citizens with a wealth of experience across European football, as the club looks to rebuild and reinforce its backline for a stronger domestic campaign.
Mbende, who stands at 1.94 metres, brings physical presence and composure to Valletta’s defence. A product of the Borussia Dortmund academy, he featured prominently in the club’s youth setup before making senior appearances in Germany’s lower leagues. His career then took him through the Netherlands and Italy, where he played for clubs such as SC Cambuur, Catania, and Viterbese, accumulating valuable experience in both the Eerste Divisie and Serie C.
Most recently, Mbende played for Rot-Weiss Essen in Germany, contributing with his aerial strength and tackling ability. Known for his leadership at the back and ability to read the game, he will be expected to bring a commanding presence to the heart of Valletta’s defence.
The move to the Maltese Premier League represents a new chapter for Mbende, who has also been capped at youth level by Cameroon. Valletta are optimistic that his arrival will stabilise their defensive structure and help the club challenge for European qualification once again.
Mbende is expected to link up with the squad in the coming days, as Valletta continue their preparations for the upcoming season under the guidance of their technical team. His signing reflects the club’s ambition to return to the upper echelons of Maltese football and reclaim their status as one of the island’s traditional powerhouses.
