Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight over the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion, hailing it as “super news” for the club. The Reds confirmed the arrival of the Argentine World Cup winner on a five-year contract, with Mac Allister set to wear the number 10 shirt at Anfield.
Liverpool reportedly paid a fee of £35m to secure Mac Allister‘s services, taking advantage of a clause in his contract that made it easier for him to move to another club this summer. The 24-year-old midfielder becomes Liverpool’s first signing of the window and will provide reinforcement to a midfield that will be losing Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner on free transfers at the end of the month.

Speaking about Mac Allister’s arrival, Klopp praised the midfielder’s talent, intelligence, and technical skills. He expressed his excitement to work with the versatile player, who can operate in various positions in the midfield. Klopp also acknowledged Mac Allister’s journey from a young player entering the Premier League to a World Cup-winning athlete and highlighted his admiration for Brighton’s progress as a Premier League side.
Klopp emphasized that Mac Allister, at 24 years old, still has a lot more to offer and is eager to help him take the next steps in his development. The Liverpool manager expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in making the transfer happen and conveyed his anticipation to start working with the new signing.
Mac Allister contributed significantly to Brighton’s qualification for the Europa League last season, scoring 10 goals in the Premier League. He has amassed a total of 20 goals and nine assists in 112 appearances for Brighton. Additionally, he made a notable impact for Argentina in the World Cup, scoring one goal and providing an assist in six starts en route to winning the tournament.

Following the acquisition of Mac Allister, Liverpool is reportedly targeting two more midfield signings, with links to Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone and Nice’s Khephren Thuram. The Reds are aiming to strengthen their midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
