Lee Carsley has taken over as interim manager for England’s upcoming UEFA Nations League games, resulting in changes to the coaching staff.
He has decided to remove two members of Gareth Southgate’s backroom team and replace them with coaches from the Under-21 squad, including Ashley Cole and Joleon Lescott. Carsley has also brought in new analysts and a goalkeeper coach from the Under-21 team for the senior squad.
These changes have been made ahead of the squad announcement for the upcoming matches against Ireland and Finland. The previous coaches, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Paul Nevin, will not be returning.
After eight years in the position, Southgate has stepped down and the search for his successor is being led by FA technical director, John McDermott, along with chief executive Mark Bullingham. A farewell event was held for Southgate, attended by his former staff and colleagues, at the Belfry Hotel in Sutton Coldfield.
