Matchday 4 of La Liga kicks off without a Friday night game, with the first match featuring FC Barcelona hosting Real Valladolid at 17:00 on Saturday.
After winning all three of their matches so far, each with a score of 2-1, Hansi Flick’s squad sits atop the table and aims to extend their winning streak as Dani Olmo, the match-winner from midweek, makes his debut at home.
Following that, Athletic Club faces Atlético de Madrid. This matchup will truly test the title credentials of the capital side since they have already drawn twice this season. Securing a win at San Mamés would make a strong statement early in the campaign; however, Diego Simeone’s team has struggled against Los Leones, losing four of their last five matches in Bilbao.
On Saturday, RCD Espanyol goes up against Rayo Vallecano. The Catalan club aims to build on their first point of the season gained midweek. Conversely, Rayo Vallecano has gathered four points from their two away games, making them a challenging opponent.
Saturday night features two matches at 21:30, including a Valencian Community derby between Valencia CF and Villarreal CF. These clubs have had very different starts to the season, with Los Che still looking for their first point, while Villarreal CF has already secured seven points and netted eight goals.
Simultaneously, CD Leganés will host RCD Mallorca, both teams having played to goalless draws in the previous round.
Sunday brings five more matches, starting with two at 17:00. One of these is CA Osasuna vs. RC Celta, a must-watch for fans given the excitement surrounding Celta’s matches so far, which have seen eight goals scored and six conceded in their first three games.
The other early clash features Deportivo Alavés against UD Las Palmas, with both teams aware that every point earned in this early stage is as crucial as those collected later in the season.
Next on the schedule is Sevilla FC vs. Girona FC, where new coach García Pimienta is eager to claim his first victory of the season. Given that Girona FC won both encounters last season, this could be another tough match for Los Nervionenses.
Sunday evening will see Getafe CF take on Real Sociedad, who have struggled at home, losing both of their opening matches. While La Real hopes for better luck in the capital, they will face a well-organized Getafe side under José Bordalás.
The final match of the matchday occurs at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid faces Real Betis. Interestingly, Los Verdiblancos have a strong away record against Real Madrid, winning two, drawing four, and losing only one of their last seven visits to the capital. This presents an early challenge for Real Madrid in the new season.
