A petition has surfaced on change.org demanding that West Ham footballer Kurt Zouma be prosecuted after his brother filmed him violently abusing his cats.
The goal of the petition is for “the Metropolitan Police and the RSPCA to conduct an urgent investigation and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous act,” and the petition was signed by 268,627 people.
Adidas also confirmed that Zouma lost its sponsorship deal after the scandal.
We have completed the investigation and we can confirm that Kurt Zouma is no longer an athlete under contract with Adidas, as explained in the announcement.
The club also announced that Zouma had received a “maximum penalty” in the amount of two weeks’ salary, which is believed to be around 250,000 pounds.
He has been fiercely criticized on social media and by animal rights groups, while he could also face a police investigation, according to some reports in England.
The Frenchman played in the last match between West Ham and Watford on Tuesday, and his cats were taken away and are currently owned by the animal welfare organization in England.
