The legendary Just Fontaine, the scorer of 13 goals in one World Cup, has passed away

The legendary French Just Fontaine, a footballer has passed away at the age of 90, his family announced today.

Fontaine’s record of 13 goals in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden still stands today. He started his career in Morocco with the USM Casablanca team before playing for Nice and Reims.

Fontaine played 21 matches for the French national team and scored 30 goals, cementing his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Despite losing to Pele’s Brazil in the semi-finals, Fontaine helped lead France to a third-place finish in the 1958 World Cup.

I wasn’t the fastest, nor the best with my head, but I was lucky. Football is my passion,” Just once said.

After retiring from football, Fontaine went on to manage the French national team in 1967, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse. He also served as the coach of Morocco from 1979 to 1981.

Football fans around the world mourn the loss of one of the sport’s true icons.
