Leicester came from behind to draw 1-1 against Leeds United in a fiery match at Elland Road, as Jamie Vardy ended his 19-game Premier League goal drought with a late equalizer.
Leicester City‘s Jamie Vardy struck late to rescue a point for the Foxes against relegation rivals Leeds United in a thrilling 1-1 draw at Elland Road. The 36-year-old’s first Premier League goal since October 23 canceled out Luis Sinisterra’s first-half opener in a Yorkshire clash that saw both sides create plenty of chances.
Leicester dominated the early exchanges, but VAR ruled out Youri Tielemans’ stunning strike, which had found the top corner via the crossbar. Leeds then took control and opened the scoring with 20 minutes gone, as Sinisterra headed home Jack Harrison’s cross.
The Foxes continued to push forward, but Leeds’ defense held firm until Vardy’s late intervention. Kelechi Iheanacho and James Maddison combined on a quick counter-attack, with Maddison playing through Vardy to curl home the equalizer with just 10 minutes remaining.
Leeds had two chances to snatch victory from corners in the dying minutes, but Daniel Iversen made a terrific save to deny Marc Roca’s header before Patrick Bamford missed a sitter from a yard out at the back post.
The draw leaves Leeds one point and one place above Leicester in the Premier League table, with Everton hot on their heels. Leeds travel to Bournemouth for another crucial relegation battle on Sunday, while Leicester face Everton in a basement battle on Monday.
