Argentinean Gustavo Alfaro has stepped down as the head coach of Costa Rica after a tenure of nine months, as announced by the country’s football federation.
According to reports from Argentine media, Alfaro is being considered as one of the potential candidates to replace Daniel Garnero as the manager of Paraguay. A source from Alfaro’s team had earlier informed Reuters that he has agreed to leave his position, without providing any explanation for the decision. The 61-year-old led Costa Rica in this year’s Copa America, but they were eliminated in the group stage, finishing third. Alfaro previously guided Ecuador to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The federation expressed their gratitude towards Mr. Gustavo and his team for their commitment during their time leading the Costa Rica team. They also stated that they will continue working towards the 2026 World Cup and will keep the fans updated on their progress, reaffirming their dedication to the development and success of national football.
