The players of Inter defeated Atalanta on the sidelines after a reversal of 3:2 in the 15th round of Serie A.
The home team had a big initiative at the start of the match. First, in the 15th minute, Teun Koopmeiners shot in the right corner, but the “Nerrazura” goalkeeper managed to save his attempt. Just a minute later Jose Luis Palomino attempted a header from a corner, but once again Onana reacted brilliantly.
Atalanta’s pressure continued, and in the 24th minute, Stefan De Vrij brought down the opponent in the penalty area and the main referee of the match pointed to the penalty spot.
Former Leicester player Ademola Lookman took responsibility and was safe from eleven meters for the “Goddess” lead 1:0. However, the home team did not manage to keep the advantage long enough.
It was the 37th minute when Lautero Martinez headed down a cross, and Edin Dzeko knocked the ball into Juan Musso’s net to equalize – 1:1.
There were not many chances in the continuation, so the teams went to the break with a draw.
The home team again had control at the start of the second half, and Duvan Zapata had the best chance in the 54th minute. He met the cross perfectly in the penalty area, but was not precise when it came to the realization.
Just two minutes later, the visitors got the breakthrough. Federico Dimarco assisted Edin Dzeko, who did not have a difficult task and easily put the ball into the empty goal for 2:1.
Just a minute later, Inter managed to throw Atalanta into the knockout stage, Jose Luis Palomino tried to head the ball out after a cross and turned it into his own net for a convincing advantage for the guests – 3:1.
Due to the questionable situation and potential offside, the referee consulted the VAR technology, and when everything was clear he pointed to the center.
At the time, it looked as if everything had been resolved, but Atalanta did not want to give up so easily, and in the 77th minute, Palomino, who was the tragic figure in the third round of Inter, restored hope to the home team (3:2).
With little time left, Inter managed to defend and take all three points from Bergamo.
Inter is currently fourth in the table in Serie A with 30 points, as many as Milan and Lazio have with a game less, while Atalanta is sixth with 27 points. In the next round, the “Rossoneri” expect a derby with the first-placed team Napoli, while Atalanta will visit Spezia, but all this only after the international break due to the World Cup.
