The coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, took responsibility for the fact that midfielder Calvin Phillips does not provide the expected games in the jersey of the “citizen”.
Phillips was brought to Manchester City from Leeds for 45 million pounds, where he shone under the leadership of Marcel Bielsa.
Guardiola announced that the England representative will start the match in the League Cup against Newcastle, which will be only the fifth start for Phillips in the “Citizen” shirt.
“Marcelo helped Calvin to be at the peak of his career. I would like to be successful in that regard, but the way we play is at least somewhat different here, that’s why he struggles sometimes. Bijelsa’s vision suited him completely.” said Pep, then continued:
“The club leaders talked to him, because he didn’t manage to fight for the minutes, but Calvin wanted to stay and fight for his place. We bought him because he is of high quality and wants to learn. We are working together to achieve his goal.” Guardiola concluded.
