Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said that Erling Haaland has the quality to help the team win the Champions League, but that the Norwegian striker cannot do it alone.
Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund this summer, for whom he scored 10 goals in his first six Premier League games. He has scored 23 goals in 19 games so far in the Champions League.
– All the players that the club decided to bring in this season came to try to improve us, otherwise there would be no point. Will that help help us win the Champions League? I do not know. I always believe, but if we rely only on Erling, we will not win the Champions League. What we need to do is to play well, to create chances to help him score goals and I hope we can do that – said Guardiola.
City will play in Spain tonight at 21:00 against Sevilla, in the first round of the Champions League.
– I completely understand that everyone is talking about Erling, but I have three, four, five new players and I consider them the same. I hope he can help us, but we won’t win the trophy just because of him. He has a special quality and in important matches he may be able to solve our problems, but if we don’t play well we won’t win either in the Champions League or in the Premier League – said Guardiola.
