What has been referred to a ‘mounted issue’ resulted in being effectively a confirmation of what actually happened in Gozo Football.
Do you remember the alleged bribery case when the local media namely Newsbook and Netnews published the details of the case involving a Qala FC official trying to bribe the Nadur Youngsters goalkeeper ? Well basically the police have gathered enough evidence to proceed with the charges.
The two persons in question both hailing from Gozo have been summoned to appear in the Gozo Courts next week and therefore both the MFA an the GFA had no alternative but to issue a few sentences on their website to confirm the news. The alleged case revolves around an ex Qala FC official who allegedly offered a job with the ‘Ministry for Gozo’ or the ‘Government to a player in return for him to throw away a particular match (Nadur Y vs Qala Saints) The Police have also testimony that the ex Qala FC official and another person tried to influence also the outcome of other matches involving Nadur Y of the 2023/24 season.
News portal Newsbook had reported that the Qala Saints FC individual involved was the Club President Noel Mizzi who happens to be one of the drivers of Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri.

Following an inquiry, the Malta FA Prosecutor has filed charges against two affiliates in relation to an alleged bribery attempt in matches of the Gozo League during Season 2023/24. The disciplinary process will commence immediately with a hearing before the Integrity Panel of the Control and Disciplinary Committee scheduled for this coming week.
Both individuals will be facing criminal charges and will be most probably be banned for 10 years+ from any football activity in both Malta and Gozo.
In an atricle last week the Times of Malta had published details also of all the individuals involved adding ‘a third individual’ The Times had reported reported; ‘Qala Saints FC and its player Manuel Xerri, along with Żebbuġ Rovers goalkeeper Leonard Camilleri will be suspended by the MFA after being summoned to appear at a hearing about the incident’
