Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed relief after his side brought an end to their four-match Premier League losing streak with a 2–0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield. The result eased some of the pressure that had built over recent weeks and offered signs of restored confidence.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, becoming only the third player in Liverpool’s history to reach 250 goals for the club. Ryan Gravenberch, returning from an ankle injury, added the second after the interval to secure only Liverpool’s second win in eight matches in all competitions.
“The margins are small every game,” Slot told BBC Match of the Day. “Today we got a bit of luck which we have not had recently. Villa hit the post early, and our second goal took a deflection. In recent weeks, those moments went against us.”
Slot highlighted how scoring first changed the rhythm of Liverpool’s performance.

“When you are ahead, you can control the game with possession. If you fall behind, you are forced to chase and take more risks. Today, we managed the game much better.”
Captain Virgil van Dijk also welcomed the return to winning ways, though he cautioned against reading too much into one result.
“There is always noise and criticism, and you cannot control any of that,” van Dijk said. “Some of the comments are ridiculous, but we stick together and keep working. We cannot get carried away when things are good, and we cannot panic when results are poor.”
The Dutch defender added that the group must remain focused on progress rather than headlines.
“Last season, we had difficult moments, and people were still positive. Now, after a few losses, it sounded like we were heading into a relegation fight. That is the way things are said in football these days. We just have to stay calm and work.”
Liverpool will now look to build momentum as they prepare for their next league fixture.
