Newcastle and Liverpool secure key wins, Bournemouth thrash Forest whilst Everton edge Brighton

The Premier League weekend delivered a series of thrilling encounters, with Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Everton all securing crucial victories, while Bournemouth produced a dominant performance to dismantle Nottingham Forest.

Isak Inspires Newcastle to Comeback Win Over Southampton

Liverpool

Newcastle United moved into the Premier League’s top four after a commanding 3-1 comeback victory over struggling Southampton, who remain in deep trouble near the foot of the table.

Despite their poor form, Southampton took an early lead when Jan Bednarek powered home a header from a James Bree cross in the 10th minute. However, their lead was short-lived as a moment of rash defending saw Joe Aribo bring down Alexander Isak inside the box. After a brief VAR review, the Swedish striker confidently converted from the spot to level the score.

Newcastle took full control from then on, with Jacob Murphy providing a perfectly timed pass for Isak to slot into the far corner, turning the game on its head before the interval.

The Magpies wrapped up the victory early in the second half when Sandro Tonali timed his run to perfection, bursting clear and finishing clinically to make it 3-1. Southampton attempted to rally, and thought they had pulled a goal back through Mateus Fernandes, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

With their fourth successive away win, Newcastle continued their impressive run, while Southampton’s woes deepened with their 19th defeat of the season.

Liverpool Dominate Ipswich to Maintain Title Charge

Liverpool

Liverpool maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Ipswich Town at Anfield, extending their unbeaten streak to 18 league matches.

The Reds wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking an early lead in the 11th minute through Dominik Szoboszlai, who found the bottom corner with a precise finish after being picked out by Ibrahima Konaté’s incisive pass.

Liverpool doubled their lead before half-time when Cody Gakpo’s pin-point cross found Mohamed Salah, who expertly controlled the ball and fired it into the top corner. Gakpo then turned goalscorer just before the interval, pouncing on a rebound to make it three and become only the third Dutchman to score in five successive Premier League home matches.

Ipswich found some consolation late on as Jacob Greaves nodded home from a corner in the dying moments, but it was too little, too late.

The win marked Liverpool’s 11th consecutive home victory against Ipswich and reinforced their position as the team to beat in the title race.

Bournemouth Hit Five Past Forest in Sensational Display

Liverpool

Bournemouth continued their remarkable Premier League campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory over third-place Nottingham Forest at the Vitality Stadium, extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches.

The Cherries set the tone early, with Justin Kluivert opening the scoring in the ninth minute with a well-taken finish, reminiscent of his father Patrick’s clinical style. Bournemouth kept the pressure on, forcing Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels into multiple saves to keep the deficit at one heading into half-time.

However, the floodgates opened in the second half. Dango Ouattara bagged a brilliant hat-trick, heading home from a Kluivert cross in the 55th minute before scoring twice more with composed finishes, capitalising on Forest’s defensive lapses. Antoine Semenyo added a fifth late on to cap off a stellar team performance.

Despite the heavy defeat, Forest remain in the top four, but Bournemouth’s relentless pursuit has brought them within touching distance of the Champions League places.

Everton Edge Brighton to Secure Vital Three Points

Liverpool

Everton secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, with Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half penalty proving decisive and providing manager David Moyes with the perfect gift on his 700th Premier League appearance in the dugout.

The first half was a cagey affair, with few clear-cut chances until Everton were awarded a penalty when Brighton’s Joel Veltman handled the ball inside the area. Ndiaye confidently dispatched the spot-kick to hand the Toffees their first half-time away lead in the league since October.

Brighton pressed for an equaliser after the break, with Kaoru Mitoma and Joao Pedro coming close, but Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was in fine form to preserve his side’s slender advantage.

With this win, Everton moved seven points clear of the relegation zone, while Brighton’s winless home streak extended to five matches, denting their European ambitions.

With Liverpool maintaining their grip on the summit and the race for the top four heating up, the coming weeks promise more thrilling action in the Premier League.
