Arsenal held in a draw at home against Crystal Palace

Arsenal’s Premier League title aspirations basically ended for good after a significant setback on Wednesday night as they were held to a 2–2 draw by Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners twice took the lead through Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard, but were pegged back by goals from Eberechi Eze and a late equalizer from substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Kiwior opened the scoring early with a well-placed header, giving Arsenal an early advantage. However, Palace responded with a stunning volley from Eze, leveling the match. Trossard restored Arsenal’s lead before halftime, continuing his impressive scoring form. Yet, in the closing stages, a defensive lapse allowed Mateta to chip in the equalizer, earning Palace a deserved point.

The draw leaves Arsenal on 67 points, trailing league leaders Liverpool, who now require just one point from their upcoming match against Tottenham to clinch the title. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed disappointment over his team’s inconsistency and defensive errors, which have led to 13 draws this season, five in their last eight games.

Crystal Palace, preparing for their FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa, showcased resilience and depth, with manager Oliver Glasner praising his team’s performance. Mateta, named man-of-the-match despite playing only ten minutes, capitalized on a high-positioned goalkeeper to score what he described as one of the best goals of his career.

As the season nears its conclusion, Arsenal will need to regroup ahead of their Champions League semi-final against PSG, while Liverpool stand on the brink of securing their 20th English title.
