BERGWIJN HAS AN INTERESTING START IN AMSTERDAM: I hated Ajax, I can't say a single bad word about PSV!

Steven Bergwijn arrived this summer as the most expensive signing in the club’s history, and then made perhaps the most interesting initial statements.

He joined Ajax this summer, admitted that he hated the “spearers”. He wanted the Amsterdam side to be knocked out in the semi-finals of the Champions League and rejoiced when it happened.

– Then we were eliminated in the group, and Ajax was doing great. Of course there was jealousy when you watch your biggest rival do well. Then I was happy that Ajax was eliminated in the semi-finals, because I wanted us to play there, not him. Do I regret it now? No, I’m talking the way it was – said Bergwijn.

The former PSV striker was born in the Dutch capital and was learning the trade at Ajax’s youth academy when the cooperation was abruptly ended.

All the fun quickly disappeared, because some things happened. I am an emotional person and I was no longer happy at Ajax at that time. And that had nothing to do with minutes, because I am a regular player. All that took a long time, the connection with the coach, whose name I don’t even want to say, disappeared – the former Tottenham player points out.

The next stop was bitter rival PSV, and there are only good things to say about that club.

– I had a fantastic time at PSV. I can’t say a single bad word about them. That’s where I became the player and man I am today. I hated Ajax at the time. Not because we were rivals, because I was wearing the PSV shirt, but because of everything I experienced at the club, because of the way they treated me. However, after a year or two, I got over it, I left everything behind – concluded Bergwijn.

Ajax and PSV are playing a Dutch Supercup game tonight (8:00 p.m.).
