The players of Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid will meet in the quarterfinal match of the Spanish King’s Cup, it was decided by lot.
The two teams played the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, in which the Madrid team was better with a score of 2:0.
In addition to that duel, the two teams met twice in the domestic championship in December, and both times Real Madrid won.
Athletic reached the quarterfinals with a victory over Barcelona after overtime (3 2), in the replay of last year’s Cup final, in which the Catalan team won the title.
The Basque team won its last Cup title in 1984, while Madrid last won the Cup in the 2013/14 season.
In the remaining three duels, Real Sociedad – Betis, Valencia – Cadiz and Rayo Vallecano – Mallorca will meet.
The matches of the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup are played at the beginning of February.
