AEK Athens have made a surprising signing by acquiring former Manchester United player Anthony Martial. The French striker had been without a team since the end of his contract with Manchester United last summer, after playing for them for nine years.
The Greek club announced the transfer on social media, welcoming the “wizard” and revealing that Martial will be arriving in Athens tonight at 8.40pm. He was previously linked to other clubs, including Brazil’s Flamengo, but has now chosen to play in the Super League in Greece.

Martial, 28, will be hoping for a fresh start and better luck with injuries after a difficult time at Old Trafford. He was seen as a promising player when he joined Manchester United in 2015, but struggled to live up to expectations and only managed to score 90 goals in 317 appearances.
Despite AEK Athens offering him the most lucrative deal in their history, Martial will be taking a pay cut from his previous salary of £250,000 per week at Manchester United.
The club’s current squad includes former Premier League players such as Erik Lamela, Roberto Pereyra, Nordin Amrabat, and Thomas Strakosha. AEK Athens are currently at the top of the Greek Super League and have recently been knocked out of the Europa Conference League.
