In the first game at the new stadium, the Greek giants AEK from Athens defeated Ionikos 4:1.
Serbian national team member Mijat Gaćinović went down in AEK history as the first scorer at the newly opened Hagia Sophia stadium. The game was played in the 6th minute when he sent a shot from the edge of the penalty area with a great shot and beat the visiting net keeper Choutetsiotis.
The player from Trinidad, the brilliant Levi Garcia, made it 2:0 with a header in the 26th minute. AEK went to rest with a two-goal lead.
In the second half, the dominance of the hosts continued, which was crowned with another goal. In the 62nd minute, captain Araujo sent a shot towards the goal and after a deflection the ball tricked the goalkeeper Ionikos who remained powerless, the result was 3:0 for the home team.
Just two minutes later, Gaćinović entered the list of scorers again. On a perfect cross from Eliasson, the Serbian international was left completely alone at the second post and shook the net with a volley for 4:0.
The guests scored an honorable goal in the 94th minute with Fadiga’s goal, which made the final score 4:1.
With this victory, the Athenians came to second place in the Greek Super League with 12 points from 6 games, the first is Panathinaikos, which has a maximum of 18 points.
