Angel Di Maria remains at the top of the 2025 Club World Cup scoring chart, but Harry Kane is hot on his heels. The Benfica playmaker netted his fourth goal of the tournament, all from the penalty spot, during his side’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Round of 16 on Saturday. That strike temporarily gave him sole possession of the golden boot lead, but it also marked the end of both Benfica’s tournament and Di Maria’s spell at the club, as he is set to return to Argentina.
The race for top scorer reignited thanks to Harry Kane’s brace in Bayern Munich’s thrilling 4-2 win over Flamengo on June 29. That performance took Kane to three goals, placing him alongside teammates Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala, as well as Pedro Neto (Chelsea), Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), and Wessam Abou Ali (Al Ahly).
With Bayern still in the competition and preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals on July 5, Kane will have more chances to overtake Di Maria. The England striker, who previously won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup, now has his sights set on claiming the same honour at club level.
As the tournament reaches its decisive stages and more heavyweight clashes loom, the race for the golden boot is heating up. Who will finish as the Club World Cup’s top scorer? The answer will come on July 13, the day of the final.
