Malta reached a new milestone in darts with its first-ever participation in the WDF Europe Cup Youth. Organised by the Malta Darts Association, this debut marked an important step forward for the sport at youth level, providing valuable experience for the players and delegation.
Representing Malta were Thomas Sammut, Gordie Zammit, Aiden Micallef, and Riyaz Bonello, four committed young players who gave their all on the international stage.
Pairs Competition
Thomas Sammut and Gordie Zammit advanced from the group stage and progressed to the Last 32.
Singles Competition
Thomas Sammut and Aiden Micallef both made it past the group stage before being eliminated in the Last 64. Notably, Sammut faced the eventual European Champion Mitchell Lawrie in that round.
Malta finished above several established nations, including Italy and France, in the overall standings – a commendable result for their first appearance.
Chairman of the Malta Darts Association, Roderick Zammit, said:
“This was a historic moment for Maltese darts. To see our youth team step onto the European stage for the first time and compete with such determination fills me with pride. We are laying strong foundations for the future of darts in Malta, and this experience will surely inspire others to follow. Finishing in the general table ahead of nations like Italy and France is a remarkable achievement. Thank you to the players, coaches, and especially the parents who believed in this project.”
The Malta Darts Association extends its gratitude to the parents, families, and supporters whose commitment helped make this experience possible.
