James Armani and Thea Parnis Coleiro were crowned Rush AC athletes of the year, as the Club held its Annual Awards Night celebrating a season of remarkable success both on the local scene as well as international competitions abroad.
Among the men, Armani took home this accolade after winning a gold medal at the Games of Small States of Europe. He achieved this honour during last Summer’s event held on our shores claiming top spot in the triple jump, with a personal best of 14.49m. Twenty years down the line, this win emulates that in the long jump of coach Rachid Chouhal, won during the 2003 edition.
For Parnis Coleiro, this was surely a season to remember as she chalked off several category records, winning several medals in Malta and abroad, most memorably becoming the first Maltese athlete to win a double silver medal at the ISF Games held in Brazil on the 100m and 200m sprints.
The Club also awarded the best athletes in their respective categories, Leah Frendo and Nathan Bonnici (Under 12), Viola Pizzolato and Giacomo Portelli (Under 14), Bianca Shoemake and Luca Gerada (Under 16), Chloe Grixti and Isaac Bonnici (Under 18), Zaida Pace and Kareem Chouhal (Under 20) as well as Kyle Caruana (Under 23).
Other special awards went to Roderick Paul Buhagiar, Thea Shoemake, Thea Parnis Coleiro, Enrica Ciantar, Hazel Muscat, Isaac Bonnici, Owen Borg and Carey Spiteri.
The Club’s Junior Coaches were also recognised for guiding the young athletes towards a season of growth and success, accompanied with various honours and category records at national level.
