The 2026 London Indoor Games, held annually at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, proved to be another successful international competition for Pembroke Athleta Athletics and Triathlon Club.
Pembroke Athleta were strongly represented at the event, with a total of 35 athletes competing across the Seniors, Under 20, Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13 categories. Throughout the competition, the club’s athletes achieved five National Age Group Records, along with a high number of personal best and season best performances.
The first major success came on Saturday 17 January, when Jorrin Busuttil delivered a strong performance in the 200 metres indoor event. He set new National Records in both the Under 20 and Under 23 categories with a time of 22.40 seconds, finishing eighth overall among approximately 50 competitors.
During the second weekend of competition, Timothy Rizzo Naudi improved the Under 16 National Indoor High Jump Record after clearing a height of 1.61 metres at the Junior Games. This mark surpassed the previous record set last year by his club team mate Carl Grech in the same event.
In the middle distance events, Aurora Desira recorded the best age group performance in the Girls Under 14 800 metres indoor race. She finished second in her heat and second overall with a time of 2:30.40.
Another notable performance came from Karina Mia Peresso, who improved the best age group time in the Girls Under 16 800 metres indoor event. She placed third in her heat and third overall among 18 athletes, finishing in 2:26.05.
Success in the 800 metres continued with Jack Herrera Rolè, who set a new Under 14 Boys National Indoor Record with a time of 2:20.62. The performance also represented a personal best and secured him second place overall.
Kaine Micallef also produced strong results in the Under 13 category, winning the 60 metres in 8.28 seconds and claiming victory in the long jump with a leap of 4.20 metres.
Overall, the London Indoor Games marked another positive international outing for Pembroke Athleta Athletics and Triathlon Club, with the majority of athletes achieving personal best or season best performances in a high level competitive environment.
