The AIPS has strongly condemned the unprofessional behaviour of several journalists following the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal, which took place in Rabat on Sunday, 18 January.
In a statement issued from Lausanne on Monday, 19 January 2026, the AIPS Executive Committee expressed its firm disapproval of actions that disrupted the post-match press conference and prevented it from proceeding in an orderly and professional manner. The incident, which was widely circulated through video footage on social media, sparked concern within the international sports media community.
AIPS underlined that such conduct is unacceptable and undermines the values and standards of the journalism profession. The association stressed that behaviour of this nature damages the credibility of sports journalists and disrespects both athletes and officials who are entitled to a professional media environment.
“Our Association cannot accept that certain colleagues could tarnish the dignity of our profession,” AIPS stated, reaffirming its commitment to upholding ethical standards and respect in all sporting contexts.
In response to the incident, AIPS confirmed that it has formally requested a detailed report from its African continental body, AIPS Africa, in order to fully assess the circumstances surrounding the disruption and to determine any further steps that may be required.
The association reiterated its longstanding position that press conferences are a vital platform for respectful dialogue and accountability, and called on journalists worldwide to adhere to the principles of professionalism, responsibility and mutual respect, particularly at major international sporting events.
