Sweden won a fourth gold medal in women’s cross-country skiing at the 2026 Winter Olympics after Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist claimed victory in the team sprint freestyle.
The Swedish pair completed the 9.5km race in 20:29.99, finishing 1.40 seconds ahead of Switzerland, with Germany taking the bronze medal nearly six seconds behind.
Dahlqvist was called up late after Linn Svahn was ruled out through injury, but she handled the pressure well and helped Sweden stay in front throughout the race. Sundling was challenged by Norway’s Astrid Slind during the middle stages, but kept her composure and handed Dahlqvist a strong advantage at the exchanges.
Sweden gradually extended their lead, and Sundling produced her fastest leg to set Dahlqvist up for the final stretch. Dahlqvist then finished strongly to secure gold, staying clear of a late push from Switzerland’s Nadine Faehndrich.
There was a tight battle for bronze, with Germany edging Norway by just 0.14 seconds, while the United States finished fifth.
Sweden’s overall medal tally at the Games now stands at six golds, five silvers and two bronzes, with women’s cross-country contributing four golds.
